Top Six Sandals For Summer 2015

Friday, 26 June 2015

~ nothing gives us more pleasure than shopping for you! researching these 10 shoe styles has given us a serious case of sandal envy, as well as a serious shoe temptation that may only be cured by indulging in some retail therapy along with you.  the nice thing about shopping for summer sandals is that they are usually less expensive than the other styles we are tempted by year round, and they go on sale more, and who doesn't love that.  the pastel trend is definitely not going anywhere this summer, as well as the gladiator or the wedge but what is different is the men's wear inspired styles and the return of the sporty sandal. Check it out below:

The Sporty Sandal
~ this Vince Camuto Nafula cross slide is the perfect slip on for those looking for something on trend and minimalistic~

The Ankle Wrap Heel

~ Aquaazzura is our go to for this trend, even if they didn't start it, they redefined the shape of this style.  making is look casual and expensive at the same time. the Wild Thing sandal is the perfect example:

The 70's Platform

~ thank us short ladies for this one! we want it all: a high heel and a higher platform! we love a little Brian Atwood for this trend but TopShop fits our budget better:

The Mule

~ this 90's shoe style has made it's way back on the runway, and been made fresh with the addition of bright colors and bold patterns. these Stuart Weitzman's are a fresh take on a 90's favorite:

The Woven Flat

~ we love a great flat.  because let's face it, even though most of us might secretly wish for a glamorous life where we wear our styled outfits with chic heels every day that is not the case for our actual lives! we do not want to scrimp on style though and the woven flat makes our plain flats summery. take these Rachel Zoe Tyler flats for example:

The Gladiator Sandal

~ we were going to show you our favorite Chloe gladiators and then we realized, hey we can't afford these either, so we found these even cuter Steve Madden Gladiators instead!

~ whether you wear flip flops all summer or style your feet with an enviable selection of shoes, one thing is sure, with any of these styles you will be on point!

Currently Reading: {The Funny, Horrible and {possibly} True Stories of #SetLife}

Wednesday, 22 April 2015

~ Christopher Massardo is a good friend of mine and the Editor of PRESS Magazine based in Ottawa. Christopher gave me my 'big break' as a beauty writer. with unwavering trust he's allowed me to be a part of his vision and magazine. we've been friends ever since 2010 when we met and worked on a photoshoot together and now as colleagues, we root for each others successes daily ~

~ as if being a magazine editor isn't enough, Christopher is now adding Author to his list of accomplishments. he surprised me with an advanced copy {being a beauty editor for PRESS definitely has its perks ;-) } and i wanted to share with you all why you need to get this book ~

~ #SetLife does NOT lie. for real. the hilarity that ensues, the unbelievable insanity and even the moments of sheer embarrassment Christopher writes about are so true that you can't help but cry tears of laughter. anyone who works behind the scenes of photoshoots, commercials, film, television and in fashion will absolutely be able to relate to these tales of comical woes. and for those that don't, #SetLife gives you a glimpse into the not-so-glamorous side of anyone who works behind the scenes in fashion. the chapter titles alone preach so much truth! do yourself a favor and get The Funny, Horrible and (possibly) True Stories of #SetLife and prepare to laugh and probably even cry! ~

~ The #SetLife e-book becomes available May 1st and is currently available for pre-orders on Amazon.com, Kindle and Kobo for Kobo readers The print edition becomes available on Amazon.com and in select retail stores May 15.
Run, don't walk and enjoy!! ~

Fashion at the 2015 Grammy's

Monday, 9 February 2015

~ there were far less fashion risk takers at the Grammy's this year, and by risk takers we mean there were no nipple tassels, pop stars arriving in eggs, or ridiculous props;  just good old, fantastic fashion. now that doesn't mean there weren't some WTF's on the red carpet, but let's not focus our energies on that, and leave room for drooling over those that excelled

Gwen Stefani

~ the chameleon on fashion styles chose a custom made Versace jumpsuit for her red carpet Grammy look and looked so effortlessly chic! we loved her flip to a pretty pink lip and envied her relaxed fashion

Katy Perry

~ well this girl shined bright like a diamond in Zuhair Murad, the slightly sheer, but ever so sparkly frock was the perfect length for her and even though colored hair could make it's way back into the so over it cupboard, we loved her lavender wavy tresses

Chrissy Teigen

~ this girls look of the night was our WCW for REAL! looking absolutely AHMAZING in Emilio Pucci, it fit like a dream, had cut outs in all the right places and I can't imagine that her hubby, John Legend really minded being upstaged.  you know, since he got to take her home and all....

Taylor Swift

~ this was a risk for the often safe Ms. Swift in Elie Saab.  the ombre color was beautiful and played well off her skin tone and coloring. the high- low silhouette was well structured with out looking stiff and we LOVED the shoulder straps!

Mine and Yours

This Yaletown treasure trove of all things on-trend and covet worthy has just celebrated 1 year in business, along with recently moving ( next door to their previous location) into a larger space.  Partners Courtney Watkins and Jigme Nehring offer a unique take on the traditional consignment store. These two ladies gave me my first foray into resale by selling me a pair of Prada booties (worn twice and 75% off !!!!!) for a Holiday event I was attending. Well if there's anything that's going to get you hooked, it's going to be a pair of Prada booties ( worn only twice before they found their way into my closet) at 75% off.

Offering clients who are looking to resell their new and never worn or like-new items 30% cash or 50% in-store credit of the projected resell rice of said item back makes it an enticing way to earn dollars or shop without feeling guilty!  Check out their online store as well www.mineandyours.com if you need some more enticement.

WCW: Frida Gustavsson

Wednesday, 17 September 2014

So WCW means "woman crush wednesday" a fact I only just recently figured out (there needs to be a dictionary just for social media acronyms).  Which means we SBGirls can pick whichever lovely face we fancy at the mo!

This week's face is none other than Swedish- born Frida Gustavsson, catwalk darling at just 21 years of age (resist trying to remember what you were doing at 21....this writer was venturing into makeup school and working for SEARS...).

Gustavsson of the corn colored hair, fair skin and baby blues has walked in many a coveted fashion runway, Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Lanvin, YSL, Dior, McQueen and the ever testosterone favored Victoria Secret show to name a select few.  However, we Canucks may recognize her for her most recent Fall 2014 campaign for Joe Fresh (above).

Repped by IMG in New York and London, she started her modelling career in Sweden and quickly flew off to Japan, soon to entrance us all with Maybelline ads and high fashion shows by the bundle. Rock on Miss Frida Rock on...
